Technical Development
Develop technique and high levels of acceleration. Research shows that most team sport athletes will achieve 80% of their maximal speed within first 3-5 steps of the sprint. We help young athletes to develop technique and high levels of acceleration through individualised training.
We focus on correct change of direction postures and positions, then create drills and scenarios to develop agility for sports.
Physical Development
To improve speed, athletes need to sprint maximally on a regular basis. Once we achieve a good basis of technical execution, we start increasing the total volume of maximal effort sprints completed within the session.
Sprinting maximally over longer distances (20+ metres) is a key part of speed development for sports. We focus on upright sprinting technique as well as volume of sprints.
We supplement the speed development with plyometric training to develop lower body power and explosiveness as well as gym based training to develop strength and reduce the risk of injuries.
Objective Assessment & Monitoring
We use gSprint timing system and STATSports GPS devices to objectively assess and monitor the progress of the athlete.
We select key performance indicators such as 10m and 20m sprint times as well as maximal speed (m/s) and we test / monitor athletes on a regular basis to provide feedback as well as track their progress.
We also use live video feedback during sessions to analyse and provide feedback and coaching points to athletes during sessions.
